Dubai is famous for its record-breaking architecture and buildings. The city is a home of the world’s tallest building (Burj Khalifa), the world’s biggest man-made islands (The Palm Islands), the biggest mall (Dubai Mall), and, most recently, the world’s tallest twisted tower (Beyond Infinity). The new miracle of architecture in Dubai is called The Change Initiative (TCI) which is now also called the world’s most sustainable commercial building.
TCI received this prestigious title after it scored higher at the latest LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum rating. The Change Initiative received the unprecedented 107 points of a total of 110. In that way it surpassed the Australia’s Pixel which had 105 points.
Dubai’s The Chance Initiative is actually a large shop which offers a wide variety of solutions for sustainable living. Those include, for example, waste management, lifestyle items, energy conservation, as well as organic food.
TCI covers an area of 4,000 square meters and it is located on Dubai’s Shaikh Zayed Road. It first opened its doors in April 2012. The founder and the CEO of the Change Initiative is Gundeep Singh. Singh has also planned two open between 20 and 25 new stores around the world over the next half a decade. In addition, eight of them will be located in the Middle East region.
TCI became a top achiever on the LEED Premium ranking thanks to the fact that it provides eco-friendly solutions in all fields of green building. Also, The Change Initiative is completely energy efficient.
The impressive level of energy efficiency of the building is achieved through 26 different technologies that create energy. TCI has its own heat-reflective plant, as well as a large number of solar panels. Every window of the building has heat-reflective films and its insulation is 3 times the normal one. Also, a large amount of the material used in the interior of TCI is recycled. Even the water it the building is reused and recycled.
The Change Initiative is not the only Dubai building that is present on LEED’s list. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has 98 of 110 points. As a result, it is also known as the world’s biggest government building.
