The annual list of The Most Reputable Countries in 2013 was released today by the New York and Copenhagen-based private consulting firm, The Reputation Institute. The country with the best reputation according to the survey is Canada, while Sweden and Switzerland come in second and third places, respectively.
For its Most Reputable Countries list, the Reputation Institute surveyed more than 27,000 consumers from the G8 countries during the period January- March, 2013 through online interviews. The study, called Country RepTrak Study, measured the reputation of 50 countries with some of the largest economies and populations across the globe. The rankings were determined according to three key criteria – an advanced economy, an effective government, and an appealing environment. The researchers asked four questions urged people to give a rating from 1 to 100 points – whether they trusted those countries, whether they admired and respected them, and whether they liked them. The fourth question was about the overall reputation, including: if the country is a safe place to visit, if it is a beautiful country, if the residents are friendly and welcoming and many more.
On the 100-point scale, Canada received a score of 76.6 and topped the list for third year in a row. In fact, there is a little difference in the list from last year. 2012’s second place was occupied by Australia which now goes down to number 4. Sweden and Switzerland moved up from third and fourth to second and third this year.
The countries with the worst rankings are Iraq at number 50 with 21.2 points, Iran (22.6), Pakistan (28.8), Nigeria (34.0) and Russia (36.7).
The United Arab Emirates comes at number 31 with 49.3 points and has the best reputation among the Middle Eastern countries, while Saudi Arabia is at 43rd place with 40.1 points.
