The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) honoured the assessors of the Dubai Quality Award (DQA) and Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA) 2012 at a ceremony held at Park Hyatt Hotel, Dubai. The assessors were presented with certificates in appreciation of their work in assessing the applications for both awards.
The assessors for the awards include senior professionals who have significant experience in quality management, human resources and general management. They come from all segments of business sectors in the UAE including nationals and non-nationals. They work together to ensure that each applicant is screened thoroughly in accordance with the parameters laid down by the awards.
“The Business Excellence Awards represent the strongest testimonial on how well organisations and enterprises are aligned to Dubai’s competitiveness goal as well as the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make the emirate a modern business hub driven by the best international practices,” said Mr Ali Ibrahim, Deputy Director General for Planning and Development Affairs of DED.
Ali Ibrahim added: “The significant contributions of the assessors in evaluating the growing number of applicants have been a major factor in the success of the Dubai Quality Award and the Dubai Human Development Award. We have also seen a growing number of senior professionals with significant experience in quality management, human resources and general management enrolling as assessors over the years, adding significant value to the awards”.
“The dedicated efforts of assessors to ensure that quality standards are totally implemented at the various companies which applied for the awards, have gone a long way in spreading awareness and implementation of the culture of quality and excellence in the emirate. The working methodology of the assessors directly impacts the quality of assessments, and the feedback from them holds great value for companies, which can use it as a starting point for identifying areas for improvement”, commented Shaikha Ahmad Abdulrahman Al Bishri, Executive Director of the Business Excellence Centre at DED.
Since the inception of the awards, the Department of Economic Development has been training over 100 new DQA and DHDA assessors every year apart from holding refresher courses for senior assessors and team leaders.
“The reputation of the awards rests on the strengths and commitment of its assessors. They not only evaluate the applications on the basis of stringent criteria but also consistently convey the message of excellence to their associates and to the companies they evaluate,” Shaikha Al Bishri added.
The DQA is the single most valuable framework for companies to implement a quality strategy to improve their effectiveness by involving all employees to meet objectives and achieve customer satisfaction at optimal costs. The Dubai Quality Award winners are honoured in three categories – the Dubai Quality Gold Award (DQGA), Dubai Quality Award (DQA), and the Dubai Quality Appreciation Award (DQAA). The awards cover key sectors – manufacturing, finance, professional, tourism, services, trade, construction, higher education and healthcare.
