Dubai will launch a new address system. It will rely heavily on technology and it promises to be very reliable.

Dubai Municipality is expected to introduce the system by 2014. It will bear the official name Geo Address System (GAS) and it will have many benefits. The main of them will be that it will make it easier for people in the city to find different locations and buildings. As a result, there will be less confused drivers around Dubai. That will partly reduce the traffic in the emirate.

The Geo Address System will also have a positive effect on the emergency services in Dubai. Emergency medical units will reach their destinations faster since they will know exactly where to go.

As a start, about 130,000 locations and buildings in the city will be added to the system. This means that they will be marked with plates. These plates will show a unique 10-digit number which will basically be the address of the place.

The Geo Address System, which was developed by Dubai Municipality’s Global Information Systems department, will be launched only after all 130,000 receive identification numbers and plates. The new system will replace outdated and complicated addresses in the city and make life a little easier for both locals and tourists.

The Geo Address Systems incorporates innovative technology which makes it even more accurate and reliable. It will allow people in Dubai to find a location or a building through their tablet PC, smartphone, navigators or computer. To do that they will just need to visit the website mylocation.ae. Then they will need to enter an address code and the will be shown the location and receive directions to it. In addition, they will be able to even send location addresses, as well as directions to their friends.

With this project, the government of Dubai again proves that it has the ambition to integrate more technology in the city. We remind you that only a few months ago, Dubai’s government introduced a scheme for an m-government or mobile-government. Its goal will be to make all services available through smartphones by 2015.
