The first day of the most prestigious horse racing event of the year, the Dubai World Cup, will be November 1, announced HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Emirates Racing Authority. The new season will feature more racing days and a brand-new venue.
On Friday, November 1, Jebel Ali Racecourse will host the first race of the 2013-2014 season and November 2 is set to be first date for the Sharjah Racecourse at the Sharjah Equestrian Club. Dubai’s flagship Maydan Racecourse opens for the new season on November 7. 2013-2014 UAE racing season will include a total of 57 races – an increase of five races from the previous season. In addition, five of the meetings of the UAE circuit will be at the brand-new venue of the event – Al Nakheel Equestrian Club. The Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) also revealed all race dates, as well as the dates for the international series which will start with Dubai World Cup Carnival 2014 on January 9, 2014. The closing meeting and of the 19th edition of Dubai World Cup race day will be on March 29, 2014 at Maydan Racecourse.
On Sunday, November 10, the Abu Dhabi racing season with its mission to promote Purebred Arabian racing kicks off at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club. Out of all 57 races, 15 will take place at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, 20 at Maydan Racecourse, 11 at Jebel Ali Racecourse, 6 at Sharjah Racecourse, and 5 at the Al Nakheel Equestrian Club. Saeed Humaid Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of ERA Board said that admission to all public areas in the new season will be free of charge.
The Dubai World Cup 2014 is sponsored by Emirates Airlines and will include both the Emirates Equestrian Club and the Emirates Equestrian Centre.
