Have you planned something special for the weekend? A family gathering, a short trip out of Dubai, or a night out with friends? Certainly, one of the most exciting events this week in the UAE is the Thursday’s concert at Yas Island of the legendary Tom Jones. Well, many living in Dubai won’t be able to afford neither the time, nor the money to get there, but this doesn’t mean they can’t have fun. As always, the city is offering a lot of entertainment options – arts and culture events, shows, sports competitions and many others. We have selected for you some of the highlights of this weekend calendar in Dubai, so that you can escape the routine for at least couple of hours and have a different, interesting and exciting experience.
If you are not among those lucky enough to have a ticket for Tom Jones’ show on Thursday, you might still hear some of the greatest hits live. Belinda Davies and her band will perform Whitney Houston’s classics during their Whitney Houston Show from Wednesday till Saturday. The tribute concert to the phenomenal singer will present her most loved, ever-green hits including “I will always love you”, “ I wannna dance with somebody”, “How will I know”, “Where do broken hearts go”, and many others. The Greatest Love of All – The Whitney Houston Show was created by Showtime Management who conducted 15,000 auditions in 12 countries to select the best singer. Originally from South Africa, Belinda Davies has a four-octave vocal range which will amaze the Dubai audience. The show will be held for four days at Madinat Theatre, every day from 7.00 pm and tickets start at AED 250.
On Thursday, ladies can enjoy the Wear What How autumn/winter fashion styling workshops at Harvey Nichols store, Mall of the Emirates. The award-winning entrepreneur, keynote speaker, author and styling expert Kelly Lundberg will be giving advice not only on what to wear this season, but also where and how to shop, or how to start a business within the fashion industry. And if you have some doubts, you should know that with more than 10,000 shopping hours with her clients, she has become the shopping guru for shoes, handbags, designer accessories or anything fashionable you think of. If you need an advice or just looking to spend several stylish hours, go to the store and ask for the working shops. Starting hours will be 11.30 am., 3.30 pm., and 7.00 pm.
And if you think shopping and styling is too ordinary, you can take part in something really useful. The American Heart Association has launched a first aid course at the Perfect Help Training Center, on the Sheikh Zayed Road. You will learn how to respond to an emergency and provide first aid to people in serious condition. This may not sound like a lot of fun, but the ability to save life is undoubtedly one of the most valuable. The training is also perfect for companies looking to send their staff on first aid course and meet some safety requirements. The admission will cost you AED 450, but it is not much, given that the validity of the certificate you will be given is two years.
Of course, we have found an event which promises genuine fun and laughter. The Punchline Comedy Club is returning after their summer break to entertain with sharp and clever humor the adult audience. The stand-up comedy show will present John Lenahan, Simon Bligh and Matt Klein on Thursday night at Jumeirah Creekside Hotel. The starting hour is 7.30 pm. and the tickets are AED 200.
Another highlight this weekend – if you still haven’t seen the latest blockbuster starring Vin Diesel, get a ticket for Riddick. The film is currently on No.3 of the North American Box Office and an absolute must-see for all sci-fi and action movie fans. Well, don’t expect a happy sing along movie where the hero saves the day in the end – it’s stuck with action, violence, blood and a lot of fun. If you have younger kids, you’d better leave them home. You can watch the film in almost all cinemas throughout Dubai this weekend.
