Did you already visit this years’ Global Village? It may be a huge shopping and entertainment event, but it’s not the only one in Dubai. If you have no plans for the weekend, take a look at our short list of parties, competitions, and expos across the city. We have gathered the biggest, the most interesting and most entertaining events in Dubai this weekend.
If you consider yourself a tech fan, you will love the talks and exhibitions during the GITEX Technology Week 2013. Exhibitors and experts from different sectors are revealing the latest trends and innovations for hardware & software products, consumer technology, business solutions, digital marketing, mobile apps and content, and many others. However, the expo runs through Thursday, so if you still haven’t seen it, you should hurry.
A lot of sports events will be held this weekend. The first one is for cricket fans – South Africa meets Pakistan for the Second Test Match Series. It will run for five days, from Wednesday till Sunday, so if you are interested in those two teams, you can head to Dubai Sports City and the Dubai International Cricket Stadium every day at 9.00 am. when the doors open. Besides, the entry is free!
Another sports event and one that we prefer, is the Gulf Bike Week 2013. For three days, visitors at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre can enjoy street bike stunts, competitions, the Gulf Bike Expo, as well as a lot of music concerts. In fact, the expo is the only dedicated bike festival in the Middle East that showcases the latest in sport bikes, cruisers, off-road and all/urban-terrain vehicles, apparel, accessories and motorcycle-related products. Of course, you will see custom-designed bikes and a special custom bike build championship! And even if you are not a biker, don’t miss the Thunder Parade on Friday which will be the most unforgettable spectacle this week. Gulf Bike Week 2013 starts this Thursday and tickets are AED 60 for adults and AED 20 for kids.
But one of the biggest sporting events in the UAE is the FIFA U-17 World Cup. On Friday, you can visit the Al Rashid Stadium where Nigeria meets Iraq at 5.00 pm and Argentina meets Canada at 8.00 am. The best thing is that the entry is free, so you can take the kids and get them excited about football.
From Friday till Sunday, all ladies can enjoy a dedicated shopping and expo event at Sky Bubble, Meydan Racecourse. Women and girls at Ladies Day Out will take professional advice from experts on hair, beauty, fashion, health, and even business. Around 70 brands will exhibit their products and services – Nivea, Mercedes, Estee Lauder, TKD Lingerie, Highland Spring, Armaf Fragrances and many others. Organizers promise the finest food and drinks, so check their official website for the pricing. Frankly speaking, nowadays, online shopping sounds as easier alternative.
If you still have no idea what to do this weekend, you can start preparing for Halloween. You will need not only an original costume, but also a nice decoration to make your home more festive. The other option is to visit the nearest movie theater and see some of the latest Hollywood blockbusters. The amazing space drama Gravity is now on almost every Dubai cinema, so don’t miss it – it stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is the perfect family fun, even if you are with younger kids, and Escape Plan is for those who love the good old bad guys Vs. good guys action classics. Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Caviezel, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D’Onofrio, 50 Cent are only some of the stars in the action movie.
