This is definitely auto & motor fans week, but there are other things to do and see in Dubai, too. The International Coffee & Tea Festival is initially designed for professionals, but registration is for free, so you can check it out if you are a true coffee lover. In fact, you can learn how to prepare your coffee professionally at the various trainings and workshops. The Coffee & Tea Festival starts at 11.00 am on Wednesday and will run through Saturday at Meydan Grandstand and Convention Centre.
Fans of the most popular sport in Dubai, horse racing, will also be able to enjoy their favourite entertainment. Meydan Race Nights 2013 start this Thursday at Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse, Nad Al Sheba as part of the 2013/2014 racing season. They will be followed by the prestigious Dubai World Cup Carnival on January 9, and of course, the Super Saturday on March 8. General admission for the Meydan Race Nights is free, so you can take your friends and get there at 6.30 pm.
One of Britains’ most recognized comic geniuses of all time, John Cleese, is coming back to Dubai this week after a complete sellout show last year. Wonder where you’ve heard that name? Well, he started as a sketch writer on BBC radio and later came to fame with Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers. He also co-starred with Kevin Kline, Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Palin in A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures. You may also know him from Clockwise, or the films about James Bond, Harry Potter and Shrek. We’ve mentioned that this week is dedicated to auto and sports fans, right? But it will be more correct to say that this week is absolutely dedicated to men and men’s sports. The first Dubai Wrestling Entertainment, which is also the first event of its kind in the city, will be held this Friday at Hamdan Sports Complex. If you are a fan of WWE and the likes of John Cena, The Rock, The Big Show or the legendary Hulk Hogan, then that’s the perfect kind of fun for you. If the first Dubai wrestling event proves to be successful, it will bring regular matches for the first time in the emirate. Some of the athletes on Friday night will be the Red Eagle, Kenzo Richards, Chris Raaber, Joe Doering, Tajiri, Chris Masters and the Arabian Knight. Tickets range from AED 50 to AED 150.
