ChritkindlMarkt in Munich dates back to 1642 and is found in the city’s central square, Marienplatz. This Christmas market starts from 25 November and lasts until 24 December. A giant Christmas tree lit with over 2,000 lights, towers over the festive booths that offer everything from gingerbread biscuits and traditional winter beverages, to handmade toys, glass crystals and Bavarian wood carvings.

Paris, France
Christmas markets in Paris known locally as Marché de Noël is like a scene out of a fairytale with Christmas trees lit up with thousands of twinkling lights. These Christmas markets are found in two great locations in Paris – at the La Défense region (from 27 November to 28 December) and at the iconic Champs-Elysées (from 15 November 2013 to 5 January 2014). They offer great opportunities for retail therapy, in addition to a variety of food stalls to satisfy hunger pangs.

Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm Christmas markets date back to 1903. One of these is Gamla Stan (Old Town) that has been held in Stortorget since 1915 and is very popular among locals and visitors. Stroll down the narrow cobble-stoned streets to the market along little red stalls and browse over an amazing selection of handicraft and Christmas decors, while sampling delicious Swedish Christmas delicacies and traditional sweets. The markets open from 2 to 22 December.

Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen’s most famous Christmas market is in the famous Tivoli Gardens, Europe’s oldest amusement park. More than just a shopping experience, the Gardens is lit up with almost 15-kilometres of twinkling lights setting over 1,000 Christmas trees aglow and wind their way around the lake – truly a magical winter wonderland. The market opens from 15 November to 30 December.

UNITED KINGDOM

London
One of the most festive is London’s Hyde Park Winter Wonderland which opens from 22 November 2013 and lasts until 5 January 2014 (closed on Christmas Day). Attractions include The Magical Ice Kingdom, which features a spectacular snow and ice sculpture experiences and the popular Zippos Christmas Circus, in addition to the Christmas Markets within that offer an array of jewellery, accessories, clothing, handicrafts, and culinary delights across more than 200 festive wooden chalets. Manchester
