The weekend is almost here and if you haven’t planned anything special, don’t worry, there’s still much to do in Dubai. Do you know that the emirate was recently chosen top world’s destination at the World Travel Awards? And there was a good reason for it – besides the iconic buildings and engineering wonders, residents and guests of the city can also enjoy various shows, concerts, and entertainment events that take place every single day in the City of Gold.

Here we have listed some of the largest events in Dubai this weekend, so you can take part in whatever you like and make the most of your days off.

Last Friday, the 10th edition of Dubai International Film Festival kicked off under the theme “Bridging Cultures, Meeting Minds”. Hollywood stars Martin Sheen and Cake Blanchett were some of the celebs on the red carpet and the festival opened with the screening of the Palestinian film “Omar” by Hany Abu Assad. If you still haven’t got a chance to see one of the 174 films presented so far, you still have a few days to either visit the Mall of the Emirates cinemas, The Madinat Jumeirah theatre and arena, or simply check out the free outdoor screenings at Burj Park every day. The Festival will run through 14th December, so you don’t have much time!

On Friday night, you can witness a truly unique show – Video Games Live is coming to Dubai for the second time after last December’s show at the Dubai World Trade Center. Video Games Live presents music from the most popular games of all time with the help of symphonic orchestras, choirs, solo performers and electronic percussionists, cutting edge video screen visuals, lighting effects, celebrity guests and many others. Starring the national Symphony Orchestra, the show will present favourite songs from Mario, Civilization IV, Starcraft II, God of War, and others. Doors open at 1.00 pm, so you should go early for the 7.30 pm show. If you haven’t bought a ticket yet, that’s the perfect time – right now, organizers are selling 2 tickets for the price of one. And 10 lucky fans will win PlayStation 4 on the day of the show!

You can also have fun with the 8th Annual World Youth Scrabble Championship from 12th to 14th December at Etisalat Academy. The tournament is for boys and girls under 17, but it’s really entertaining, especially if you are a fan. So, if words are your power, head to the Etisalat Academy in Muhaisnah; admission is free.

Business women, as well as every modern, fashion-forward woman in Dubai will be glad to visit the 15th edition of Women’s Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Center this week, from Wednesday till Saturday. It is organized by UAE National Woman and aims at showing some of the best brands and products, and services for women from the health and well-being to the financial sector, as well as from the fashion and jewelry world.

And a little fun for the kids – The Very Snowy Holiday play will take place at the Mother, baby, and Child Show at the Dubai World Trade Centre from Thursday through Saturday. The play tells the story of the Little Mouse who wants to decorate his Christmas tree, but finds out he has no holly. So, he goes on a quest for holly which brings lots of adventures and laughter to both kids and grown-ups. Tickets are AED 125.
