1st Day of 2014 – Public Holiday

In the beginning of 2014, the private and the public sector in the UAE will enjoy the same New Year’s public holiday.

Wednesday, 1st January will be a non-working day and work will resume on Thursday for both private and government workers.

According to a release by WAM, the Emirates New Agency, Humaid bin Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, announced at a cabinet meeting that Wednesday, 1st January, 2014 will be a holiday for the public sector in the United Arab Emirates. The holiday break will be for one day, with normal work resuming on the next day, 2nd January, 2014.

Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Labour, announced in another statement that the holiday for the private sector will be also on Wednesday. Private workers will also have one-day paid holiday to celebrate the Western New Year 2014.

According to another announcement by the Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), Wednesday, 1st January, 2014 will also be a holiday for the financial markets and Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX). Trading, of course, will resume on Thursday, when the federal bodies and the entire public and private sector return to their normal working hours.
