A new ranking, which was released with the arrival of the 2014, revealed the most expensive cities today, where cost of living is the highest worldwide. The list is topped by London. Surprisingly, Dubai is nowhere to be seen.
The research reveals that London is the most expensive city today, mainly because of the price of petrol there. According to it, the cost of petrol in the UK capital is at least two times higher compared to that in New York. In addition to that, rent prices are also costly. Moreover, they amount to the compound rent prices of Toronto and Sydney.
Similar is the case with the cost of leisure activities and everyday expenses in London. A cup of cappuccino in the foggy UK capital will cost you more than in Tokyo or even New York.
The second most expensive city is Oslo. It is followed by two other European cities – Geneva (3) and Zurich (4). All in all, the cost of living in Europe seems to be the highest. As a matter of fact, ten of the twenty priciest cities today are located on the Old Continent.
Australia and North America, the U.S. in particular, also have representatives in the ranking of the most expensive cities. New York and San Francisco are both in the top ten occupying the 5th and the 9th spots, respectively. Washington D.C., on the other hand is sitting on the 20th position.
The Australian cities listed among the most expensive cities in the world are also three. However, they can be see a little further down the chart. Sydney is ranked just behind Copenhagen on the 11th place, while Brisbane and Melbourne take the 13th and the 18th positions, respectively.
The results are based on a survey which included nearly 200,000 people from all over the globe. In addition, it focused on the cost of living in about 1,600 different cities from every part of the world. Among the prices that were taken into consideration included products like electronics, food, rent, and everyday expenses.
