While some people view shopping as a tedious and boring activity, other use it as a therapy or even see it as a hobby. Namely, these modern views on shopping have inspired a new list, which ranks the best places in the world for shopping. It focuses on the best 10 cities for shopaholics for this year. Interestingly, some until recently hot shopping destinations have not found a place in it. Dubai, however, is not among them.
New York (U.S.) – New York seems to have been created to for shopping. It has many great shopping areas, like Fifth Avenue, SoHo, South Street Seaport, 57th Street, as well as Madison Avenue. In addition, the biggest fashion brands are all over the city. New York has received a high score for the variety of products and shopping experience it offers.
Tokyo (Japan) – For shoppers, exploring Tokyo is an adventure, which can prove to be very challenging. Getting around such a crowded city has little to do with a walk in the park. Still, this does not mean that it is not worth visiting. Quite the contrary, Tokyo will impress you with its diverse shopping areas. For example, Ginza is ideal of luxury shopping. Daikanyama, Aoyama and Omotesando, on the other hand, stand out with their peaceful atmosphere and small shopping centres.
London (UK) – London has a status of a shopping capital, not only on a local, but also on a global level. Many of the city’s hot shopping spots have long traditions in the field. With some, they even go back to the 1900s. Apart from shopping areas, London is known for its shopping streets. Each specializes in a particular sphere. That is why the city has received the best score in terms of variety.
Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) – One of the most colourful and vibrant cities on the list has got to be Kuala Lumpur. This place does not attract shopaholics with luxury brands, but rather with the unique cultural shopping and products it offers. That is probably why prices there are often within a reasonable range.
Paris (France) – According to Rediff Business, shopping in Paris is a one-of-a-kind experience. Although, price tags are traditionally high, the city will mesmerize you with its charm. In 2014, it will continue to be the best place for luxury and fashion shopping.
Hong Kong – Similar to Tokyo, Hong Kong also tends to be overcrowded. Nevertheless, roaming around the city is not as tiring as you might think. Shopaholics are particularly attracted to Hong Kong because it allows them to shop for custom products, especially when it comes to clothing. Also, electronic devices tend to be much cheaper in this part of the world.
Buenos Aires (Argentina) – Shopping streets in Buenos Aires tend to be very dynamic. That is because they are located close to the city’s financial district. However, during the evening, the atmosphere becomes more peaceful. Shopper will even have the chance to see local dancers and singers, who take the street later during the evening to perform.
Vienna (Austria) – Even though Vienna is a popular shopping destination in Europe, it won’t strike experienced shopaholics with a product diversity. Nevertheless, it will treat them with an unforgettable shopping and travel experience.
Dubai (United Arab Emirates) – Dubai has also managed to sneak in among this year’s best shopping destinations. According to the ranking, the city’s strongest side is its shopping diversity. Dubai’s malls will impress you not only with their amount, but also with their size. In addition, every year, the city hosts the Dubai Shopping Festival. The event lures shoppers from all over the world with exclusive discounts.
Madrid (Spain) – One of biggest shopping malls in Europe is located in Madrid. The facility is packed with more than 200 stores and entertainment centres. Shoppers who want to enjoy the fantastic views of the city, can head to one of the many shopping streets in Madrid and experience the local culture.
As you might have noticed, Milan is not listed among the top cities for shopaholics in 2014. That is mainly due to the fact, that both the value and the diversity of the products in this Italian city will be more limited compared to previous years.
Thanks for sharing your experience. 🙂
