Business Insider has just released two rather curious rankings – most and least stressful jobs for this year. Even though no occupation is stress-free, some are more intensive and can increase a person’s anxiety levels more often than others. According to BI, the majority of the most stressful job positions have to do with saving other people’s lives or risking one’s own. Often, they even include both of these things. The least stressful occupations, on the other hand, mainly include controlled indoor work environment.
If you are working as pilot, police officer or in the army, than you are falling into the list of the stress-filled jobs. As it was mentioned before, that is due to the fact that all of these professions come with heavy responsibilities. People who work in these fields risk their lives on a daily basis. However, their biggest task is to ensure the safety of the people around them. Here one mistake can have serious or even fatal consequences. That is why the four most stressful professionals are all in this category.
The first spot is taken by enlisted military personnel. Although these professionals are exposed to a lot of stress, they have one of the lowest salaries compared to the other entries in this list. However, money does not reduce the pressure, since the second position is occupied by the highest paid profession on ranking – military general. Firefighters and airline pilots are also very challenging jobs and there are listed under spots three and four, respectively.
Some of the jobs in the list of the most stressful occupations may really surprise you. For instance, on the fifth position you will find even coordinators, while the tenth place goes to taxi drivers. That is because the ranking is not based on life-threatening risk and hazards connected with the job. The list is also complied by factors like competitiveness, facing the public, working in the public eye, physical demands and others.
So, what profession should you pick if you want to minimize the stress in your life? Judging by the Business Insider’s research, it should be a job that is done indoors and in a quiet and peaceful environment. The occupation that involves the least amount of stress in 2014 is audiologist. The fact that their salary is slightly above the average make this profession even more attractive.
If you love to gossip and work with people, than you can try out as a hair stylist. This is the second least stressful job on the list. Still, you should not expect that it would improve your financial status. Jewelers and university professors are also a preferable choice. They are sitting comfortably at the 3rd and 4th spots.
All in all, the jobs that involve less stress tend to be rather monotonous and routine. Yet, they allow workers some flexibility. Such is the case with dietitians (6), librarians (8) and multimedia artists (9).
