Dubai inflation rose further in January

Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the emirate of Dubai rose 0.49% in January compared with December 2013, Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC) report showed on Tuesday.

The rise in CPI was due to the increase in prices of the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 2.01%, health group by 1.75%, transport by 0.33%, and communications by 0.16%.

The DSC said in a press release groups whose prices decreased are food and soft drinks by 2%, clothes and footwear by 0.39%, miscellaneous goods and services 0.27%, furniture and household goods by 0.10%, hotels and restaurants by 0.04% and entertainment and culture by 0.01%; while prices of other groups remained stable.

The DSC noted that annual inflation of CPI surged 2.17% in January compared to the same month in 2013.

The annual rise in CPI was due to the increase in prices of education group by 3.99%, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 3.87%, food and soft drinks group by 3.66%, health group by 2%, alcoholic and tobacco group by 1.65%, furniture and household goods by 0.98%, transport by 0.78%, entertainment and culture by 0.56%, miscellaneous goods and services 0.30%, and hotels and restaurants by 0.06%.

The DSC said groups whose prices decreased are clothing and footwear by 2.80%, communications by 0.07%.
