Trade license renewal in DED set to go smart in line with ‘Dubai Smart Government’

Customers can renew licenses through DED’s smart application

The Department of Economic Development (DED) has announced that the trade license renewal process in Dubai will go ‘smart’ effective 14th of April 2014 in line with the Dubai Smart Government initiative and the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world.

Investors can have their trade licenses renewed either through the smart application (App) ‘Business in Dubai’ on iPhones, iPads and Android devices or by logging on to DED’s website www.dubaided.gov.ae. The DED service centres across Dubai will also continue to provide trade license renewal services but all DED branches will stop manual processing of such transactions effective 14th of April 2014.

With the trade license renewal process going smart DED has taken another significant step in enhancing the ease of doing business in Dubai and demonstrating its commitment to Dubai Smart Government. Businessmen and investors will now be able to save considerable amount of time and effort as their trade licenses can be renewed with the push of a button.

Mohammed Shaal Al Saadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Business Registration & Licensing (BRL) sector in DED, said customers can now choose to renew their licenses through the smart application or at the service centres that are fully equipped to take care of investor needs.

“This will provide us an additional competitive edge and bring us to the forefront of globally adopted technologies,” the CEO said.

Al Saadi stated that almost 98 per cent of the BRL services are now accessible through smart applications on iPads, iPhones and Android devices. Customers can get licenses issued or renewed, reserve or renew trade names, get initial approvals, check status of licenses and their legal forms and pay fines through smart devices.

“DED has a network of service centres conveniently located in various parts of the city. Meanwhile, we will also continue to bring more services to the smart services platform as we are committed to Dubai’s vision of sustainable economic development and integrating the latest technology in our service delivery,” added Al Saadi.

Smart Dubai initiative aims to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world through 100 targeted initiatives and 1,000 smart services, which will improve quality of living in Dubai. The initiative will focus on six areas – smart economy, smart living, smart transportation, smart governance, smart environment, and smart generation– largely based on three main themes, which are Communication, Integrity and Co-operation.
