All-Time Legends Ronaldo and Pele: Who’s the Best?

Have you seen the latest Emirates advert? The Middle Eastern airline launched an awesome video which features two great football stars, the legend Pele and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. The video asks a good question – who’s more famous? And in fact, who’s the best?

Most fans will say every generation has its hero, but when it comes to die-hard, loyal football base, it’s all about competing. And here’s the clash between the old and the new generation – Pele and Ronaldo are both humbled in the new, smart add for Emirates campaign, which takes place on one of their super luxury A380 on board lounge. In the beginning of the video, Ronaldo stands at the bar and overhears fans whispering about him. Suddenly the Brazilian legend of football appears and his younger colleague realizes that fans were actually discussing him. But it gets really funny when another fan comes along and wants a photo with Ronaldo, not even knowing who Pele is…So, what do you think, who deserves to be called the best football player of all time?

If we need to be precise about this, and certainly we have to, we need to see who has the most awards. But the task is nearly impossible. Cristiano Ronaldo (don’t forget he is only 29 years old) is Portugal’s team captain and top goal scorer of all time. He won the FIFA/Ballon d’Or award for the best footballer on the planet twice and the European Golden Shoe, also twice. However, Edson  Arentes do Nascimento, better known as Pele, is considered by many experts, football critics, and fans the best player of all time. In fact, in 1999, he won FIFA Player of the Century award based on votes from FIFA officials, coaches and journalists (Diego Maradona won in the Internet poll). Pele is also the only player in history who has won three FIFA World Cups and is the all time goal scorer for Brazil. He is also listed in the Guinness World Records for most goals scored in football. In addition, he was declared by president Janio Quadros a national treasure in 1961.

So, while one of them is called by his fans “CR7”, the other one is known around the world as “The King”. Of course, one of them has been retired for a long time, while the other has many goals ahead of him. Only fans can tell who’s the best, but one thing’s for sure – Emirates will take thousands of fans to Brazil this summer for the greatest and most important tournament in the world, the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
