If you are looking for a holiday trip inspiration, the emirate of Dubai may be the perfect place to stay during your Easter vacation. Dubai was ranked the world’s 17th most popular destination for travelers in TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards.
Dubai may be built on top the scorching sands of the desert, but its fame seems to have a little to do with sands and beaches only. The city’s attractions range from pure engineering miracles, luxury hotels and fabulous shopping malls to underwater parks, high-end sports locations and even fun opportunities for ski in the middle of the summer. Dubai authorities’ struggles for improving the international image of the emirate seem to have effect – according to latest statistics, its airport is currently the biggest airport for international passengers in the world. In fact, the city has topped lots of lists and the most recent one says it is the 17th most popular travel destination in the world in 2014.
Travel website TripAdvisor announced on Tuesday the winners of its Travelers’ Choice Awards for best destinations. The annual awards look at around 500 destinations in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, Australia and the South Pacific and honor the best travel spots based on millions of opinions and reviews from travelers. The 17th place may not look as the greatest achievement for Dubai at first sight, but in fact it is, if we consider the real value of this ranking. Forget about government and business-promoted reviews and articles, forget about official statistics on the number of visitors per year. These awards take into consideration only the quantity and quality of ratings and reviews for a certain place, written by travelers. Dubai enters the top 25 for the first time, together with Hanoi, Lisbon, and Budapest.
