In addition to that, the Colosseum can now be called the most popular landmark selfie background in the world. The ancient attraction tops a new odd ranking which focuses on selfie tourism. The research was conducted by a website called Suggestme after it analysed over 6 million selfies.
Even though Rome’s Colosseum takes the lead, cities like London and New York have more landmarks on the list. The London landmark which is most frequently used as a selfie background is Big Ben. The clock tower ranks at the 3rd position, surpassing the city’s famous London Eye (4) and even the Buckingham Palace (6). London also has a fourth representative on the list – Tower Budget which lands on the 9th spot.
New York has three representatives on the list. Of them, Times Square (5) is the one that can be seen the most in selfies. The Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building follow closely behind at the 7th and 8th positions.

According to the analyzed data, a little over 14% of selfies are taken in the U.K. capital. New York comes second with a share of 11.62%. Amsterdam and Paris, on the other hand, have the same score of 9.82% each.

Dubai did not make it in the top 10. In addition, the research does not specify its position on the list. Despite that, it ranks the most popular landmark selfie backgrounds in the city. The first spot, of course goes to the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa. However, we are pretty sure that fitting the tower in full-height in one selfie can be quite a challenge. The Dubai Mall is the second most frequently seen “landmark” in the background of selfies takes in Dubai. Third is Dubai Marina and Ski Dubai takes the fourth position on this unusual list.
