A few days ago, Amazon announced an upcoming event, hinting that it may be launching the much anticipated Fire smartphone. This week, the company is rumoured to finally unveil its mystery handset which is said to support a series of 3D features.
Amazon shared that it will organize a “launch event” on June 18 in Seattle. The company’s CEO Jeff Bezos will be the host. That is pretty much all the information Amazon is willing to share for now.
The retailer also posted a video on the web, which captures the reactions of people who are using Amazon’s new device for the first time. All of them seem pretty impressed by what they see. However, viewers do not get to get even a glimpse of the product. According to the people shown in the clip, the gadget is “pretty intuitive” and it offers a feature that is “very real-life” and cannot be compared to anything they have seen. One of the participants in the video even exclaims, “It moved with me!” The clip suggest that Amazon is preparing to unveil a Fire smartphone that could possibly support 3D features. In the video, the testers of the device are tilting their heads side-to-side. This seems to suggest that the rumoured eye-tracking and 3D viewing functions will be supported by Amazon’s new gadget after all.
In addition, the company also hinted that its smartphone will be equipped with some innovative sensors. On its special launch event webpage, Amazon asks everyone wishing to attend to fill a short form of questions. The questions prepared for developers focus on device sensors and apps built around device sensors. Earlier reports on Amazon’s Fire smartphone claimed that it will support 3D images thanks to four cameras and a number of special sensors.
If the U.S. company is really planning to launch a 3D Fire smartphone, it would also need to offer consumers a great diversity of 3D applications. This would certainly give Amazon’s Appstore a push and it would potentially divert Android users from the Google Play store.
Still, even if Amazon does not unveil a 3D Fire smartphone, the promotional video suggest that whatever the company’s new product is it would be quite impressive and unique. Among the other rumoured functions of the device are a 4.7” screen that will support an HD resolution of 720pixels. According to Forbes, Amazon’s smartphone could boost the company’s profits by $3 billion.
