Today is the day in which Amazon will unveil… something. Although it is not very clear what type device the company will introduce at its upcoming event, everyone assumes that it will be a 3D device – Fire Smartphone. Smartphone because Amazon has released all of the trendiest gadgets except for this one. 3D because of the countless rumours and because the handset will need to have some big-game changing feature that will make it pop out on the overcrowded, Android and iOS dominated market. In addition, Amazon’s teaser video and image for the event hinted that the mysterious product will really be a phone.
So, what can we expect from the device? In a nutshell, lots of Amazon-branded services, decent specifications and design, as well as a stand-out function or functions. Here’s a more detailed picture of that.
3D and no glasses required – The worst things about 3D technology is that it comes hand-in-hand with 3D glasses. You cannot enjoy a tridimensional image without the goggles. However, Amazon is said to have developed a 3D technology that does not need glasses. It is reported that images on the device will look like holograms and will float above the display. That would probably be achieved through four different front-faced cameras combined with sensors.
Motion commands – Another futuristic feature of the Amazon super phone is rumoured to be something like a motion control. After the company posted its teaser video this speculation turned almost into a certainty. That is because the clip shows how people tilt their heads in different directions while using an unknown gadget. If that features is really included on the device, public transport will become very entertaining.
Heavy integration of Amazon service – Every Amazon device comes with a set list of Amazon services like Amazon Prime, Kindle Book Store, Amazon cloud and etc. The new electronic gadget, whatever it may be, will make no exception to that rule. Therefore, do not expect to see Google Play on it. Instead, the handset is more likely to support only the Amazon Appstore.
Mid-range specifications – What is known about the specs of the gadget is that it will probably come with a 4.7” display, 2GB of Ram, Qualcomm Stapdragon processor, 720p resolution, 13MP rear camera and a 12MP front camera (for 3D). Judging by that, the phone will have mid-range specifications. Therefore, it may come at a reasonable and competitive price. Do not expect a high-end product that would cost a small fortune.
Design – Again, think mid-range. A few weeks ago, reported images of the Amazon Fire smartphone leaked on the web. What they revealed was a gadget with a simplistic design, which is neither and game-changer, nor a trendsetter. Instead, it has a rather standard smartphone look.
Modified OS – With its Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon created a modified version of the Android mobile operating system and called it Fire OS. The new device might be powered by the same OS. However, if it has 3D functionalities there might be some extra changes.
US-only – Amazon is not streaming the event live in many countries. That suggests that initially it will target only the U.S. market. If things go smooth, the company will expand the handset’s market reach and introduce it in more countries.
Only a few hours until we find out what the world’s largest online store has in store for its consumers. After all, it might not be a smartphone at all. Who knows?
