One of the the most popular and successful services Amazon offers to consumers is its Kindle book store, which offers not only eBooks and audiobooks, but all other publishing formats. Until recently, mobile users who wanted to have access to both electronic and audio titles were required to download and use two separate apps. However, Amazon recently announced that it will unite these two features, allowing readers to enjoy their favourite book on the go.

The updated version of the Amazon Kindle app now supports both eBooks and audiobooks. This means that you can easily download the audio version of an electronic book and vice versa. Whenever a user wants to switch between them, he or she would be able to do this with just a tap. According to Amazon Kindle’s Senior Vice President, with the improved Amazon Kindle app readers will “never have put down” their favourite titles again even when they are on the move.

Currently, Amazon offers more than 45,000 electronic books that have an audio version as well. The narration they offer is professional and it does not rely on the rigid text-to-speech technology. That is the audiobook feature will be paid. Consumers, wishing to purchase the audio version of an eBook will have to pay somewhere between $1 to $4 per a title.

The updated Amazon Kindle app will also automatically turn the pages of the electronic book which you are listening. So, users will be able to quickly switch back to reader without having to waste time on searching their place. In addition, they will have the chance to set the speed of the audio narration, as well as to use a sleep timer.

But how useful is this feature? According to Amazon, there is already a high demand for it, because people are now enjoying books in a “profoundly” different way. The company has found that many Kindle readers have the habit to switch between reading and listening to books quite often.

The improved Amazon Kindle app can be downloaded for free and used on iOS devices (iPhone, iPads), Android gadgets, as well as on Amazon’s very own Kindle Fire tablets.
