Rumours about the opening of Dubai Apple Store have circulated in the media since 2011. Recently, they have resurfaced, but this time it seems that they have some ground.
In a matter of only two days, Apple has posted 14 UAE-based job openings on its official website. Moreover, all of them, with the exception of just one, are tagged as “retail store” jobs. Moreover, among them is a position entitled as UAE – Apple Store Leader Program. This is a 24-month program that targets job seekers who have recently graduated from university or college.
Another big hint is that Apple is also looking to hire Store Leader for a UAE-based job. The rest of the UAE job positions include Service Specialist, Business Manager, Business Leader, Market Leader, Inventory Specialist and others.
Where and When
Since April 2014, Apple has posted 26 different job openings with UAE location. The majority of them, however, are set in Dubai, which suggests that the company may have picked the city over Abu Dhabi. In addition, Dubai enjoys high mobile and internet penetration, which continues to increase with a rapid speed. Also, the emirate is preparing to host World Expo 2020, which is expected to further boost the local retail market.
Apple still has not commented any retail store opening and it will probably not announce it until it is ready to open or even after the official opening takes place, maintaining a complete mystery around its plans. Despite that, if the U.S. company is really preparing to launch a retail store in Dubai, that will probably happen by February 2015. That is namely what the hiring schedule of the latest job openings implies. Moreover, with Black Friday on its way, Apple may try to speed thing up and open the store by the start of the busiest shopping day of the year.
Earlier in 2014, Tim Cook visited the United Arab Emirates and stopped by both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Although its speculated that Cook was researching options and locations for Apple’s first retail store in the country, it was later shared that the CEO’s visit had to do only with UAE technology-focused educational programs.
Some of the previous rumours regarding the Apple’s intentions to open a store in the UAE claimed that the retail facility would be located in The Dubai Mall. It was believed that the giant favoured the mall since it is the most popular shopping venue in the Middle East.
