The 66th Emmy Awards honored this year’s best primetime TV productions with a lavish show in L.A., California. The event was hosted by Seth Meyer, a popular comedian, and it did not fail to offer fans a number of surprises. Let’s take a look at the most memorable Emmy 2014 moments, as well as the winners’ list.
“Breaking Bad” Wins the Night Away
While it was predicted that “Breaking Bad” will add a few Emmy awards to its collection, no one really expected for the show to be the big winner of the evening. The last episode of the hit series was aired nearly twelve months ago. Despite that, the show dominated in almost all of the most prestigious categories, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor (Bryan Cranston), Best Supporting Actress (Anna Gunn), Best Supporting Actor (Aaron Paul).
Most Nominated Shows Gets a No
“Games of Thrones,” on the other hand, did not have this luck. Although the show received the most nominations this year, it did not grab even one Emmy. Even Peter Dinklage, who was considered a sure winner in the category Best Supporting Actor, did not take a precious Emmy home. This show seems to be doomed to shine only when it comes to nominations. Over the years, it has received a total of 59 Emmy nominations of which it won only 14.
Remembering Robin Williams
One of Hollywood’s most loved comedians, the late Robin Williams, was also honored at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards. Williams’ colleague, Billy Crystal, gave a moving speech which perfectly-timed comic elements. After that, the audience and the TV viewers had the chance to watch a clip of Robin Williams best moments on the stage and on the big screen.
Traditional TV Still Rules
Traditional TV channels are now faced with a new competition on the market – streaming TV services, like Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. An increasing number of online streaming platforms have started to produce their own shows, which are already enjoying a great success. However, although seen as favourites, shows like “House of Cards,” “Orange is the New Black” and “Derek” left the building empty-handed. All the awards went to the good old TV.
Elie Saab’s Fashion Vision
Like always, some celebrities stood out with excellent taste in fashion, while others stirred the crowd with their unusual choice of apparel. Yes, we are talking about best and worst dressed stars at the 2014 Emmy Awards. One thing we learnt from this year’s ceremony is that if you want to impress you should pick an Elie Saab dress. Both Halle Berry and Julia Roberts wore the famous Middle Eastern designer and both landed a spot on the best dressed list. Berry shines in a dusty pink chiffon gown by Saab that was quite dreamy, yet daring and a revealing. Julia Robert, on the other hand, wore a more edgy dress by the same designer that made her look like a true rock chick.
Others who also scored many points for their style include Downtown Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, Claire Danes, Orange is the New Black’s Taylor Shilling, Kirsten Wiig, as well as January Jones.
Lena Dunham again headed the list of the worst dressed. Her Giambattista Vailli gown was confusingly fluffy and looked as it came from a thrift shop. However, the actress’ makeup and hairstyle were even less glamorous. Katherine Heigl also failed to impress with her frankly outdated gown. Actress Sarah Paulson choose to show up dressed in something that strangely resembled a gift wrapping paper.
