The Spring/Summer 2015 fashion season is officially on, at least in the news! The latest edition of New York Fashion Week kicked off a few hours ago and fashionistas from all over the world are anticipating to get a glimpse into the hottest trends for the spring and summer of 2015.

What to Expect

NYFW will continue until 11 September and it will feature nearly 300 fashion shows. As always, runways in the Big Apple will be ruled by U.S. designers, like Alaxander Wang and Marc Jacobs. However, there will be also many collections by rising talents from the Asia, Europe, as well as the Middle East. That definitely guarantees a week filled with glamour, exquisite style and trendy celebrities.

New York Fashion Week is expected to attract even more attention on 6 September (Saturday), when the Spring/Summer 2015 collections of Luis Antonio, Lacoste, and Herve Leger by Max Azria will take over the catwalks. What you can expect are bold fabrics and odd prints. On the front row, the collections will be judged by Anna Wintour, Vouge’s editor in chief, as well as Victoria Beckham. Miley Cyrus is also rumoured to show up. She will team with designer Jeremy Scott and present, as Scott puts it, “something very exciting.”

However, the highlight of the event will certainly be Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren collections. Tommy Hilfiger is said to offer a spectacular digital program for the audience, whereas Ralph Lauren will debut his Spring/Summer 2015 collection in Central Park.

First Shows, Early Trends

Day One of New York Fashion Week already wrapped up with key shows by BCBGMaxAzaria, Richard Chai, Tadashi Shoji and Creatures of the Wind. However, the visions they offered were quite different from one another. Therefore, it is still hard to outline any specific trends for the summer and spring of next year. Nevertheless, there’s a big chance that we will see more lavender in 2015. Both BCBG and Richard Chai had included this dreamy colour in their collections. The designers behind the two collections also seemed to agree on another fashion idea – sleeveless garments. Chai relied heavily on them for his men’s fashion vision for Spring/Summer 2015, whereas BCBG presented sleeveless silk dresses.

In addition to that, BCBGMaxAzria also offered very bohemian designs which were dominated by pastel colours. Even though most of the outfits were light, some of the looks included in the collection were very heavy and even slightly dramatic.

A little bit more cheerful were the Spring/Summer 2015 collection of Richard Chai and Creatures of the Wind. The shoes presented by Creatures of the Wind included everything from playful florals and bright yellows to wide and bold stripes. Chai also went big with daring colours. Bright tones like acid yellow and electric blue hardly remained unnoticed. The designer also features a number of trench coat outfits that were shiny and in strong colours.

Tadashi Shoji, on the other hand, debuted a collection that combined femininity and power. His goal is to offer chic cocktail dresses that were comfortable to wear.

What is yet to come in New York are the Spring/Summer 2015 collections of Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, DKNY and Ralph Lauren. After that, the new fashion season will continue in London, Paris and Milan.
