After unveiling Kindle Voyage in September, Amazon starts shipping its latest-generation e-reader today. According to the company, this is its most advanced e-reader ever. Some of its new capabilities include automatic light adjustment according to surrounding environment, higher screen resolution and PagePress button.
Will the new Kindle Voyage move up to the top of holiday shoppers lists or will simply remain one of the several versions of the Kindle? Consumers already share opinions on the innovative e-reader on Amazon’s discussion board and here’s what they have to say:
The Highs
Amazon’s decision to bring back page-turn buttons seems to be a real winner. Consumers are thrilled about the fact that they again have a button alterative for navigation. We remind you that the lack of physical page-turn option was cited as one of the biggest setback of Voyage’s predecessor – Kindle Paperwhite.
Another thing that avid readers seem to appreciate in Voyage is its improved resolution. Compared to Paperwhite’s 212ppi resolution, Kindle Voyage packs 300ppi. Together with its Adaptive light sensor, it seems to make a difference for the better. The text is said to be crisper and clearer, making reading an even greater pleasure.
The Lows
The biggest disadvantage of Kindle Voyage, according to most consumers, seems to be its price. With a starting price tag of $199, Voyage is $80 more expensive compared to Amazon’s most popular e-reader, Kindle Paperwhite. In fact, a number of shoppers have stated that they prefer to invest in Paperwhite or to stick to an even older generation of Kindle e-reader, instead of ordering Kindle Voyage. Other shoppers are willing to wait a few more months to get the latest Kindle eBook reader, hoping that its price will drop down. Surely, Amazon will run a few special promotions during the most active holiday shopping season.
The other big consumers’ complaint concerning Kindle Voyage is that it does not come with additional rewards, like 10-month free access to Kindle Unlimited. Currently, Amazon offers a 30-day trial of the service, which is standard trial period for other services of the retailer like Amazon Prime and Prime Instant Video.
The Facts
Regardless of what consumers think about the new Kindle Voyage, the facts show that the device enjoys a good popularity. Even though Amazon has just started to ship the gadget, it quickly climbed the Best Sellers in Electronics list and it is already out of stock. According to the retailer’s website, Kindle Voyage will be back in stock on… November 24th. That is rather unfortunate for holiday shoppers, since it will probably go out of stock by Black Friday 2014. As a result, many avid readers may not get much opportunity to receive or even order the device by Christmas.
The good news is that consumers can still order the low-cost Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite. Also, they can get a certified refurbished Kindle eBook reader of an older generation from the Kindle Outlet Store. In that way, they will even save up to 25%.
