iPhone sales are expected to reach new record levels this Christmas season. A new report predicts that Apple will score big during the holiday quarter of 2014. How big exactly? Well, imagine that every single person in Italy and Greece, from newborn babies to centenarians, purchases a new iPhone this Christmas… or if we have to speak in numbers – around 71.5 million iPhones.

iPhone6-34R-SpGry_iPhone6Plus-34L-SpGry-flwrThis bold prediction was made in a new report by Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned KGI analyst. According to Kuo, iPhone shipments in Q4 2014 will register a jump by 82% compared to Q4 2013.

The new-generation iPhones will have a key role in this trend. The report says that iPhone 6 will make up 60% of all iPhone sales during the holiday quarter of this year. It is estimated that the handset will sell in 41.65 million units.

iPhone 6 Plus is also predicted to witness an impressive sales rate. However, Kuo does not give any specific prognosis on the number of units in which the large-screen iPhone will sell this quarter. That is because the device continues to be largely undersupplied. As a result, measuring iPhone 6 Plus sales rate based merely on consumer demand will not be sufficiently accurate.

Despite the holiday sales peak, Apple is said to register a considerable slowdown during the first quarter of 2015. Early predictions suggest that the U.S. technology company will only manage to record a total of 49.4 million sold iPhone units in total for Q1 2015. iPhone 6 is expected to account for 21.6 million of them, whereas 6 Plus – for 10.2 million.

Only two iPhone handset will witness a sales growth during the first three months of 2015 – iPhone 5C and iPhone 4S. They are said to jump by over 77% and 58%, respectively. Such a slowdown, however, is not something unusual for the post-holiday quarter.

The two new-generation iPhones seem to be Apple’s most successful handsets ever. We remind you that the technology company previously broke one record after it registered 4 million pre-orders in first 24 hours of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus release. Later, in their opening weekend alone, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus surpassed 10 million sales.
