Just like previous years, Google will launch a special doodle to mark UAE 43rd National Day. But this time, it will celebrate the occasion like never before – with a digital exhibition of UAE history.

On Monday, December 1, search engine Google announced partnership with the National Archives of the UAE for creating a digital exhibit of historical photos, telling the story of the country’s unification and founding. UAE residents, as well as the rest of the world, can now view more than 30 photos, videos and documents on Google’s Cultural Institute platform. The exhibition showcases milestone events such as the signing of the Declaration of the Union on December 2, 1971 by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The gathering of the UAE rulers outside the Guest Palace in Dubai and the first flag-hoisting are also documented and can be seen as part of the display.

The UAE is the third country to showcase its national archive online on the Google Cultural Institute after the United States and Netherlands. And according to the official statement, this is the first time part of this historical footage is available for public viewing online. Users around the world can see the signing of the document of independence, as well as the first collection of UAE’s stamps. There is also a remarkable photo, showing the seven rulers of the UAE after Ras Al Khaimah joins the union in 1972.

The exhibition is available on all devices around the world and is a great way to mark the UAE National Day on December 2 whether you are a local or an expat in the UAE, or simply want to know more about this desert country. And most of these documents, photographs and videos cannot be seen anywhere else. Other unique things users can explore on Google Cultural Institute are works of art, historic moments, and science and technology discoveries and so on. And now along with the coronation of Queen Elizabeth and Nelson Mandela’s handwritten letters from prison, people can witness the establishment of the UAE.
