One of the biggest and most talked-about events dedicated to technology and innovations – 2015 International CES – kicks off right in the beginning of the new year. The upcoming exhibition will take place between January 6 and 9 in Las Vegas. This year, the exhibitors that will participate in the vent amount to over 3,500. Just like previous editions of CES, the products and innovations to be revealed tend to follow particular trends. You can be more than certain that history will repeat itself at CES 2015, as well. Here are the main tendencies predicted to define the upcoming expo.
Wearables Take Over Apparel
Until recently, technology companies struggled to make their wearable gadgets look like trendy accessories. However, at 2015 International CES new and more fashionable tendencies will be revealed. At the upcoming exhibition in Las Vegas, companies are predicted to transform their fitness trackers and wearable computers into clothes. From shirts to shorts, wearables will be closer to user’s skin than ever before. They will impress mostly with activity tracking features. Nevertheless, more traditional wearables will also be showcased at CES 2015.
Hot Smartphone Unveilings
A number of smartphone makers traditionally debut their flagship smart handsets at CES. This year, among them are expected to be LG, Sony and Samsung. LG is rumoured to introduce a curved smart mobile phone that could possibly be the anticipated LG Flex 2. Sony, on the other hand, might show off Xperia Z4. The device is said to come with a massive 5.5” quad-HD screen, as well as a robust Snapdragon 810 processor. However, Samsung’s CES 2015 are the talk of the town. The company is said to introduce its Galaxy S6 device. That would be a rather early debut for the handset, since Samsung traditionally unveils its flagship handset in February at the Mobile World Congress. S6 is also said to rock a 5.5” display. In addition, the device might also have curved edges similar to Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
3D Printers – More Affordable and Simple to Use
While much is being said about 3D printers, consumers are still shying away from these innovative machines. That is why manufacturers will take a new direction and present 3D printers that are much more affordable and quite easy to use. It is expected that CES 2015 might welcome 3D printers as cheap as $400 or even lower. In other words, these devices might become cheaper than laptop PCs.
New-Generation 4K TVs
International CES was one the first exhibitions on which many companies choose to debut their 4K TVs. At the upcoming edition of the exhibition, they will continue this tradition by introducing the latest generation of 4K TVs. They will rely on quantum dot technology. This means that they will be based on nanocrystals. As a result, these TVs will have more vivid colours and a much more impressive saturation. Most importantly, however, they will also be more affordable that OLED TVs.
Dashboard Wars Enter a Second Round
The so-called dashboard wars were started last year, when both Apple and Google announced their plans to connect smartphones with vehicle dashboard with new operating systems – CarPlay and Android Auto. The war will get its second chapter at 2015 International CES. Hyundai is rumoured to unveil a head unit that will rely both on Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto. Ford is expected to unveil the BlackBerry-based Sync 3.0 system. Also, many other players are also expected to enter the dashboard war, like NVIDIA.
Smart Home Technology Embraces Simplicity
In 2014, consumers showed that they are ready for smart home technology gadgets, but only if they are simple to use. The Next thermostat is one of the best examples of that. Therefore, technology companies will attempt to make smart home automation are more gradual and simple processes. Again, there will be a great diversity of products, including smart home hubs and home security systems.
Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Exit Prototype Stage
Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) headsets are not something new to CES. After all, Oculus Rift made its debuts namely at this exhibition two years ago. Nevertheless, many of these devices are still not available on the consumer market and continue to be referred to as prototypes. At 2015 International CES, that is likely to finally change. We will get closer to the final edition of SiME smart glasses. In addition, Oculus might also decide to announce when it will start shipping its VR headset. Apart from that, new VR and AR prototypes will again make their way to Las Vegas’ CES. Again, Oculus is said to unveil a new prototype of Crescent Bay. Also, Sony is expected to share a bit more about its Project Morpheus VR headset.
As always, International CES promises to usher many new technology innovations. While not many of them will make their way to the mass market in 2015, they will map out the industry’s new paths.
