The production of the new Steve Jobs movie is finally reported to be making some progress. After the dropouts of actors Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio and director David Fincher, the new flick dedicated to the Apple’s founder officially has a name and even an entire cast.
The upcoming Steve Jobs biopic will happen after all. From Universal announced that the cast and the production team for the film has now been selected and finalized. The role of Steve Jobs will be played by actor Michael Fassbender, who is best known for his work in movies like “X-Men: First Class,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” as well as a number of productions directed by Steve McQueen, including the Oscar-winning flick “12 Years a Slave.” Namely for this role, Fassbender received a nod by a number of prestigious film industry awards, including the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Golden Globes, BAFTA and the Academy Awards.
The movie will be directed by Danny Boyle who got an Oscar in the category Best Director for his movie “Slumdog Millionaire” back in 2008. “127 Hours,” which was also directed by Boyle, received six Academy Awards nominations back in 2011.
The script is written by Aaron Sorkin. Sorkin is best known for his work on “The Social Network” for which he won an Academy, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. In addition, the script will be based on Jobs’ biography by author Walter Isaacson. The book received a lot of praise when it was first published and it continues to be a top-seller to this day.
The rest of the cast includes a number of award-winners as Kate Winslet, who won an Oscar for Best Actress in the film “The Reader.” She will play the former Macintosh marketing chief Joanna Hoffman. Jeff Daniels (“Ragtime,” “Dumb and Dumber”), a proud winner of a Golden Globe and Emmy awards, will portray former Apple CEO John Sculley.
The new Steve Job film will also feature Seth Rogen (“Kung Fu Panda,” “The Interview”) who will play Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak. Other Hollywood names will make an appearance on the production include Waterson, Sarah Snook, Michael Stuhlbarg, Adam Shapiro, Ripley Sobo, Perla Haney-Jardine and Makenzie Moss.
As for the movie’s name, it will be quite simple and straightforward – “Steve Jobs.” However, this production should not be confused with the film “Jobs” that was released in 2013. The film starred actor Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs and despite the buzz in generated, it received mainly negative reviews by both critics and fans. The new Steve Jobs movie project, however, seems more ambitions. With an award-winning cast and production team, the film might be aiming at a future Oscar.
Filming of “Steve Jobs” has already kicked off in San Francisco’s Bay Area. It is reported that the movie will capture the release of three key Apple product launches, one of them will be the unveiling of the first iMac.
