Every year, the Fortune magazine names the top 100 companies to work for in the U.S. and while for the sixth year, Google tops the list, hotel chain Marriott ranks as the top multinational employer in the UAE, followed by Ericsson and Hyatt.
Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For is probably the most prestigious ranking of American employers and it has been running for 18 years. Tech giant Google, which offers 28,633 employees in the U.S. (and over 52,000 worldwide) unlimited sick days, college tuition reimbursement, and paid time off for volunteering, retains its top position on the list. It is followed by The Boston Consulting Group, ACUITY, SAS Institute, Robert W. Baird & Co, Edward Jones, Wegmans Food Markets, Salesforce, Genentech, and Camden Property Trust. Most of these companies have no significant global reach, besides Google. Global workplace assessment and research firm Great Place to Work, which partnered with Fortune, has created the methodology of the prestigious Top 100 list.
And it released its list of the Best Workplaces in Asia, which recognizes organizations in the Africa and Middle East, Asia and the Pacific regions. These workplaces are distinguished by their high levels of trust, pride, and camaraderie. But researchers grouped companies based on their size and whether they are globally present, or local. Interestingly, listed in India and Japan, Google again tops 2015 Asia’s Best Multinational Workplaces, followed by Marriott, part of whose employees are based in India, Australia, and the UAE. Third on the list is Ericsson, which is listed in the UAE and in Saudi Arabia. They are followed by American Express (India, Japan), NetApp (Australia, India, Greater China), Hyatt (Greater China, UAE, India), Microsoft (UAE, India, Japan), Abbvie (Greater Korea, Saudi Arabia), Estee Lauder (UAE, Australia), and Adobe, which has workers in Australia and India.
If you are based in UAE, the best large workplaces you can choose from are retailer THE One, Emirates Transport, and hospitality brand Fun City, which have been all ranked among the top 25 Asia’s Best Workplaces with 500+ employees in 2015. According to researchers, Australian retailer Mecca Brands is the best large company to work for this year, followed by South Korea’s Shinhan and Lotte Department Store.
However, there is just one UAE-based workplace, featured in the list of the 25 Best Small & Medium Workplaces in Asia, Africa and Oceania. This is job search and services website Bayt.com, which comes at 10th position, while the ranking is dominated by Australian companies such as Atlassian, Optiver, and Universal McCann.
In fact, Australian companies appear to be the best workplaces for people in African, Asian and Oceanic regions, with 36% of the firms featured are based there. 21% of the companies are in are in India, 13% of them are in Korea, while 12% are based in the UAE. When it comes to the field of operations, information technologies are on the top, with 27% of the best companies working in tech. 15% of the firms are in retail and another 15% are in the financial services and insurances.
