After analyzing the Twitter accounts of the top 1,000 people with the most followers, San Francisco-based statistics company Silk found five common traits of the biggest social media monsters right now. Well, being famous is always an advantage, but there’s much more to it. And to enter the premier league of Twitter, you will need to do several unusual things instead of sticking to the good old strategies. So, let’s take a look at what researchers have found, but before you ask, here are the top 10 most followed people on the social network – Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Barack Obama, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Ellen Degeneres, Britney Spears, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Become a pop or a rock star. Or just run for presidency!

For instance, Katy Perry has over 67 million followers, while number 2, Justin Bieber, has 62 million, and the fourth, Taylor Swift has 54 million.  However, U.S. president Obama has 57 million followers, so if you can’t sing, try becoming a president.

Learn English, Spanish, or Portuguese

Apparently, you will be in the website’s elite if you speak one of these several languages. 320 of the top 1,000 accounts are English-speaking. Spanish, Portuguese, and Hindi are also great options.

Move to Los Angeles, New York City, London or Dubai

Of those top 1,000 accounts that state location, 81 are based in LA, while 42 in New York City and 39 in London. Of course, living in those three cities may not make you a social media star, but it will actually help you become a star. The social media status will come automatically. Another cities, home to big Twitter accounts is Istanbul, which has more accounts (14) than San Francisco.

Stop following people

If you want to be a star, behave like a star! Stop following everyone who follows you. The biggest accounts don’t follow a lot of people. For instance, Katy Perry follows only 164 users, while Taylor Swift follows 185. President Obama follows around 645,000 people, but well, he is a president. Maybe their social media strategists did not estimate following as a high priority.

Stop tweeting day and night

How many times do you tweet a day? Every half an hour? That’s not the path to fame. The top Twitter accounts tweet two a three times a day at the most. Some of them will post an update once daily or even more rarely. While Katy Perry is quite active, tweeting 87 times a month, Taylor Swift tweets has only 42 tweets each month on average.
