Apple Inc. has officially announced the dates of its annual conference – Worldwide Developers Conference. The event is expected to be focused on a major update of one of Apple’s top products.

Apple TV may finally get a long-awaited update. The logo of the 2015 WWDC features an image that resembles Apple’s set-top box on which is written “The epicenter of change.”

WWDC logo was more than enough to start the rumour mill. The most interesting speculation about the possible Apple TV announcement at WWDC suggests that the set-top box will turn into a smart home hub. That does make sense, since more and more homes are being upgraded with various smart gadgets like thermostats and locks. Apple’s HomeKit software already enables devices to be connected. By adding Apple TV to the equation, the technology giant may literally turn into an “epicenter of change.”

On the other hand, Apple may simply introduce more content for Apple TV. A similar thing happened last year, when the company announced its partnership with HBO. Last month, a report by The Wall Street Journal claimed that Apple has managed to reach an agreement with various entertainment studios that will allow the launch of a subscription channel service.

Whatever Apple intentions and plans for 2015 WWDC are, the giant will probably soon give us some big Apple TV news anyway. In September 2014, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook stated that the company still has great interest in TV. According to Cook, TV continues to be “stuck back in the 70s,” while people’s lifestyle has evolved in unbelievable ways over the past one decade alone. He also shared that Apple is working on changing that.

WWDC will kick off on June 8 and it will run until 12 June in San Francisco. Apart from focusing the event on its set-top box, Apple is also rumoured to introduce a Beat-based music service the subscription for which will cost less than $8 per month. Similar to Apple TV, the Beats-Apple music streaming platform has been anticipated since the summer of 2014, when Apple Inc. acquires Beats Electronics for the record sum of $3 billion dollar. For so much money, Apple certainly has some big plans for its pricey purchase.
