Dubai’ s Consumer Friendliness Index 2014 Top Performers Revealed

Dubai’s top-performing companies in the 2014 Consumer Friendliness Index of the Department of Economic Development (DED) were announced during a special event held earlier this week. The index ranks 52 retailers from seven different sectors based on six key factors – price, after-sales service, product quality, clarity of service/warranty policies, value of money, as well as overall consumer satisfaction.

The highest-ranked outlet in overall consumer satisfaction is Pure Gold Jewellers. In addition to that, the retailer achieved the top score in the Gold sector. Although it was added to the index just one year ago, this sector is already a top performer among all seven retail sectors.

Car agency outlets, on the other hand, registered the lowest general score this year. Al Nabooda, however, stood out as the leader in this sector.

According to DED’s survey, consumers considered hypermarket prices in product categories like fruits and vegetables rather high, Despite that, HyberPanda ranked as top performer in the Hypermarket sector in terms of overall consumer satisfaction.

Two companies had to share the first spot in the Electronics sector. Fono Distribution Services and Jumbo Electronics each received a score of 79 on the 2014 Consumer Friendliness Index.

Alshaya Group topped the category Retail Chains, thanks to the high consumers’ satisfaction with its after-sale services. Dome Café led the Coffee Shops sectors thanks to its rating for value for money. Despite a few complaints regarding high prices, product delivery and product quality, IKEA was the highest ranked retailer in the Furniture sector.

The Consumer Friendliness Index is released every year. Its aim is to encourage companies to constantly improve their consumer services, raise their standards and offer better consumer experience. Also, DED’s survey on which the index is based, enables retailers to gain an insight on their strengths and weaknesses.
