Over the few decades, Dubai and Abu Dhabi have developed into some of the world’s most spectacular and advanced metropolises. It is estimated that UAE’s gross domestic product has increased by nearly $153 billion between 1990 and 2008. That has transformed the country into one of the world’s most modern and cosmopolitan places. No wonder, by now the country has a global image of a luxury tourism destination. But did you know that many tourists describe UAE as a supercar heaven?
A new study reveals how different countries are perceived around the world by analyzing web search results. It pinpoints all the different cost obsessions related to different regions and countries.
Researchers have used search engine data to reveal that people are most curious about the cost of a Ferrari in the UAE. According to it, these results mean that a great part of the global online population perceives the Gulf country as land of luxurious super rides.
That is not surprising, given that the various motor-focused events organized all over the country. Among them are Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Emirates Classic Car Festival, Dubai Motor Festival and, of course, Abu Dhabi Formula 1 GP. In addition, the country’s luxury car market is flourishing with many big automotive brands, like Rolls Royce, scoring top sales numbers in the Gulf region.
Block buster Furious 7 may also have something to do with UAE’s supercar fame. Part of the adrenaline-filled film was shot in Abu Dhabi. Also, the character of Tej Parker played by Ludacris drives through Abu Dhabi’s deserts in a yellow Ferrari 458.
The global image of many countries is often based on a product developed on their territory. That is the case with Switzerland, which often appears online in combination with well know watch and chocolate brands, or Germany, which is associated with BMW vehicles.
Other countries and regions are known for their well-developed niche tourism. Greece is a popular wedding destination and is probably online users are most interested in knowing the cost of a wedding in the European country. Spain is famous for its cuisine and thus the most searched term in relation to the country is “food.”
