Dubai skyline is not comparable to the skyline of any other city worldwide and this fact may be easily explained with the presence of Burj Khalifa, world’s tallest tower. The impressive building has a staggering height of 2,717 ft. or 828 m. and is the tallest man-made structure in the world. In addition, the skyscraper also holds the record for building with most floors and with highest elevator installation. Even though Burj Khalifa’s crown of the world’s tallest tower may be taken in a few years years, Dubai will still remain the city with the tallest skyline.
Dubai is the city with the tallest skyline in the world. That was revealed in a recent research by a British travel company. The study examined the urban skylines of famous skyscraper cities like New York, Mumbai and Shanghai based on the combined height of their top 5 tallest towers. Dubai ranks first with a total height of 7,809 ft. or 2380 meters.
Burj Khalifa’s impressive height of 2,717 ft. greatly contributed to the city’s strong performance on this list. However, it is not the only high-rise building that characterizes Dubai’s skyline. Princess Tower (1,358), known as the world’s tallest residential building, is also featured on the list followed by 23 Marina (1,296 ft.) and Elite Residence (1,247).
Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious project, Kingdom Tower, is expected to shadow Burj Khalifa’s fame as the world’s tallest skyscraper. The building is scheduled to be completed in 2019 and will have a record-breaking architectural height of 3,304 ft., which is equal to more than 1,000 meters. The building is currently under construction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Nevertheless, the city has not been included on the list of 20 Tallest Skylines in the World. Dubai may keep its top spot on this ranking for a few more years.
Similar is the case with Wuhan, China – the city that has started constructing the world’s tallest pair of skyscrapers, known as the Phoenix Towers. Their height is reported to reach 3,300 ft, which means that it will also top Burj Khalifa once it is completed. Yet again, Wuhan is not among the cities with the tallest skylines and it will not strip Dubai from this honourable title.
Apart from Dubai, the Middle East region has two other cities on the list of 20 Tallest Skylines. Those include UAE’s Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh at the 7th and 8th positions, respectively. Abu Dhabi’s skyline height is measured at 5,254 ft, while that of Riyadh is 5,085 ft.
Cities with the Tallest Skylines in the World:
- Dubai (UAE) – 7,809 ft.
- Shanghai (China) – 7,139 ft.
- New York City (U.S.) – 6,670 ft.
- Guangzhou (China) – 6,660 ft.
- Hong Kong (China) – 6,507 ft.
- Chicago (U.S.) – 6,110 ft.
- Abu Dhabi (UAE) – 5,254 ft.
- Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) – 5,085 ft.
- Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) – 4,956 ft.
- Moscow (Russia) – 4,881 ft.
Unsurprisingly, Asia dominates half of the list. China’s Shanghai ranks second, right after Dubai with a skyline height of 7,139 ft. China is also the country with the most impressive number of representative cities on the list – four. In comparison, the entire continent of North America has four city skylines on the ranking.
Europe is also represented on the list. Panama City is the only representative from the Latin American region. Despite that, its top five skyscrapers are higher than those of cities like Singapore, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Mumbai and London.
