America’s most popular doctor on TV and still admired by many, Dr. Oz, recently has faced criticism over promoting miracle dietary pills and supplements on his TV show. Now he admitted the “big mistake” he had made for years, which exposed the biggest lie of the weight loss industry – that effective weight loss supplements with incredible results can exist.

And while many ordinary people took his words for granted, physicians and scientists criticized him for hawking dietary supplements, proved medically and scientifically to be ineffective. Often, some of these “miracle” natural extracts were backed by inconsistent or even fraudulent research, as Dr. Oz now says. Yes, the TV host admitted he had made a big mistake using such a “flowery” language to describe and promote various exotic fruits, extracts and weight loss supplements. He also agrees that doing so, he helped many companies profit as they “hijacked” his words and messages and sold people their products. His critics, however, claim that he promoted quack treatments and some even say he’s a quack medical expert himself. Last year, the doctor was forced to explain his actions before the U.S. Senate, which accused him of giving people false hope. More recently, 10 doctors at Columbia University asked for his removal as a faculty member and from his vise chair position at its Department of Surgery. The scandals and controversy around Dr. Oz continue to circulate in media outlets, but most people agree that despite his mistake, he is a good professional. However, what’s more important to the regular consumer is the fact that the huge lie was exposed once again.

Weight loss supplements shouldn’t be used on their own if you seek to lose weight and body fat, or get fit. Many of these products are not backed by a scientific research and clinical tests to prove they can actually lead to satisfactory results. But, denouncing all of them is also a mistake, as there are many herbs, fruits and various substances in nature that can actually aid weight loss efforts. The supplements, containing them, are few, but mostly available here.

So, whether you believe Dr. Oz or not, read the labels and make your own online research about the effects and possible side effects of one product or another.
