The Dubai International Airport has seen strong passenger traffic over the past two days with airlines achieving almost full booking to main destinations.

According to information by the Dubai International Airport, the airport handled a total of 1,015 flights on Friday, of which 508 were outbound flights carrying 75,000 passengers – not including transit passengers.

Seat occupancy ranged between 80 and 100 per cent to main destinations.

According to the figures, Emirates Airline flew the majority of outbound travellers – approximately 62,000 or 82.6 per cent.

The airport operates flights to 240 destinations through 140 global airline companies.

Despite handling a massive 150,000 passengers on Friday and Saturday, movement remained smooth thanks to available facilities and prior preparations.

Officials attributed the rise in the number of inbound and outbound travellers to the start of the summer vacations.

It is worth noting that the passenger traffic through Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest airport for the international passenger business, increased 5.7 per cent year-on-year in April with the number of passengers growing from 6.16 million to 6.51m.

In 2014, Dubai International became the world’s busiest airport in terms of international passenger traffic, recording around 70.4m passengers, up 6.1 per cent from 2013.

The airport has projected a target of receiving 79m passengers in 2015.
