Apple has launched its own smart battery case for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 smartphones. The smart battery case developed by Apple, which retails for $99, looks similar to the existing range of iPhone cases provided by third-party developers.
Apple said that the Smart Battery Case, which comes with an integrated battery pack, is engineered specifically for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 to give longer battery life and protection. The case is made of soft-touch silicone and microfiber material.
The company claims the iPhone and battery case can be simultaneously charged for increased talk time of up to 25 hours, Internet use of up to 18 hours on LTE, and video playback of up to 20 hours.
“With the Smart Battery Case on, the intelligent battery status is displayed on the iPhone Lock screen and in Notification Center, so you know exactly how much charge you have left,” Apple said on its website.
The battery case supports Lightning accessories, such as the Lightning to USB Cable provided with the iPhone, and also works with the iPhone Lightning Dock that is sold separately. The battery case comes in two colors – Charcoal Gray and White.
Apple had reduced the battery capacity of its latest smartphones – the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, but claimed that the greater efficiency of its newest mobile operating system, iOS 9, which was released in mid-September would more than make up for that.
