UAE will be the next country to host World Expo 2020, the latest edition of the 160-year-old global event. The selected theme of the event is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, with a focus on sustainability, mobility and opportunity.
World Expo’s attract millions of visitors to explore and discover pavilions, exhibits and cultural events, staged by hundreds of participants including nations, international organisations and businesses.
Last month the architectural designs for the pavilions were unveiled to the public and yesterday the ruler of Dubai unveiled Expo 2020 Dubai’s new logo.
The logo was picked from over 19,000 designs and is inspired by a ring recently discovered at a 4000 year old archaeological site in the Emirates. The ring is a symbol of unity and strength, connecting the past with the future and inspiring generations to come.
The story behind Expo 2020 Dubai logo is a fascinating one. In 2002, His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and the Ruler of Dubai, discovered an archaeological site called Saruq Al Hadid. It was here, amongst the historical discoveries, that a collection of gold rings were found.
The past has provided a perfect reflection of the present: a place where people and ideas met, and created something beautiful and new. It is the essence of modern Dubai, and of Expo 2020’s theme – Connecting Minds, Creating the Future – encapsulated now in these gold objects from this site, that provides the inspiration for our new logo. Each part of the ring touches and is touched by another, representing the power of connections that endure over time and distance.
