To mark the opening of Mirage Project Point Dubai, a new design hub based in Dubai Design District (d3), a full programme of talks and events will be free to the public during Dubai Design Week, commencing October 24.
Mirage is a market-leading manufacturer of Italian porcelain stoneware, distributed across 130 countries, with operations in the Middle East spanning 23 years. Mirage Project Point Dubai is the first international ‘design hub’ for the company outside of Italy, highlighting the importance of the regional market and the company’s continued growth.
Tanya Pearson, General Manager of Mirage Middle East, says: “We want to give something back to the design community here, and encourage people to get together and discuss the industry that we all love to work in. Mirage Project Point Dubai offers architects, interior designers, and design professionals a versatile, open meeting and consultancy space, to be used for presentations, exhibitions, talks, or simply have a coffee with the Mirage Middle East team.
“Having worked with many regional architects and interior design practices over the decades, and now being based in d3, it was important for us to support regional initiatives like Dubai Design Week that encourage the designers of the future, as well as established design practices. We hope visitors to Dubai Design Week will find our talks educational, insightful and topical.”
On the opening day, 2pm-4pm, Mirage Project Point Dubai presents a panel discussion about fire safety and fire resistant materials in the regional construction and design industry, highlighting key new advice drafted by UAE Civil Defense. Guest speakers include a regular commentator on the topic Abhishek Chhabra of Thomas Bell-Wright International Consultants, which specialises in passive fire protection and façade testing, and Ammar Saad, director of Lever Building Materials, which represents leading products in the building material industry and is the exclusive regional distribution partner of Mirage Middle East.
On Wednesday October 26, 2pm-4pm, the designers of Mirage Project Point Dubai, Pallavi Dean Interiors will host a design talk followed by an authentic tasting session of Italian balsamic and breads that hail from the Modena region, where Mirage’s headquarters and factory is based. Design director Pallavi Dean, director of interior design Christina Morgan, and managing director and Dubai Eye’s Business Breakfast presenter Richard Dean, will present their talk on contemporary commercial design, drawing upon innovative design details in the venue and other examples in the region.
Design in Ras Al Khor (DRAK), in association with Dubai Design Week, has partnered with Mirage Middle East and its distribution partner Lever Building Materials as exclusive venue hosts for the DRAK16 exhibition and design dinners, held every day at Lever Building Materials’ warehouse and offices in Ras Al Khor. For free transport to and from the exhibition venue, visitors can book a complimentary taxi from Mirage Project Point Dubai, B101 Building 5, d3, to Lever Building Materials, Industrial Zone 2, Ras Al Khor (and back to d3), between October 24 and 29, 10am to 10pm.
Throughout Dubai Design Week Mirage Project Point Dubai will be open from 9am to 6pm for design tours, where the team will show how locally and internationally based architects, interior designers and professionals in the construction industry can use the space according to their needs.
