July 11: Dubai’s Retailers Vs Amazon’s Prime Day

Dubai’s residents and guests will be spoilt for choice in the coming days as brick and mortar retailers and online stores will compete to offer the best deals on electronics, clothing, books and toys, home appliances and furniture.

Monday July 11 has been set by Amazon as the day for its annual mega sale open only to Prime members – the Prime Day. This is an online event only and this year will last for 30 hours only. To be able to shop the incredible deals, however, one should use Amazon Prime which is an annual subscription service that cost $99. On the same day, Monday July 11, however, a 72-hour sale kicks off across Dubai’s shopping malls. This is one of the highlights of this year’s Dubai Summer Surprises.

If you are based in Dubai, the local mega sale it will be more interesting and entertaining. You can explore multiple stores at shopping malls and between bargain hunting sprees you can enjoy a meal or coffee at the multiple F&B outlets.

The deals will most probably better and you don’t have to pay extra for shipping or online service. You will be able to actually try clothes and shoes and have fun.

The organisers of the annual retail event have just revealed a full list of brands, including big labels in the apparel industry, such as Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Victoria’s Secret, that will be participating in the limited-time sale, to help bargain hunters plan their shopping more effectively.

The 72-hour sale, which runs from Monday to Wednesday each week during DSS, promises to offer bigger exclusive savings on already-discounted retail items.

More than 70 brands will be participating in the exclusive sale at 19 malls across Dubai, including Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Festival City, Oasis Centre, Mercato and Dubai Mall.

Participating brands will mainly be from the women’s and men’s fashion category, so those who are looking to get their summer wardrobe sorted can expect to score some great savings.

The DSS period provides an opportunity for shoppers to bring home a wide array of merchandise at discounts up to 75 per cent.
