With the school season just around the corner and children across Dubai waiting in anticipation for a new school year coupled with new teachers, new friends, new classes and new adventures, there are a host of fun events taking place around Dubai to make the transition back to school both easy and enjoyable. Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of Dubai Tourism, highlights the top Back to School events below that promise to engage children and parents alike ahead of the new school year:
Explore the unbelievable for the first time in the Middle East with Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! at WAFI Founded by Robert Ripley, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! immerses people in bizarre events and items that are just too unusual to be true. Visitors will be able to enjoy over 75 weird and wonderful exhibits of all sizes and a number of interactive elements for free! Coinciding with the Back to School season, WAFI will host the travelling installation starting September until November during mall opening hours. This is an exhibition not to be missed by the whole family!
Over in Ibn Battuta Mall, discover the wonders of outer space and let your imagination run wild with a space-themed activation. The China Court is hosting an out-of-this-world range of intergalactic educational activities including the 3D outer space simulation, a virtual reality capsule, a Mars Rover replica, a miniature space station, a 3D space photo wall and more. Don’t miss out – set off to school on a breath-taking journey through space at Ibn Battuta; running until 10th September 2018.
The Dubai Mall is hosting a selection of fun-filled activities to celebrate the Back to School season, making the experience of getting ready for school both convenient and fun for children and parents alike. A larger than life School Bus Market has popped up on the ground floor near Galeries Lafeyette and will disappear by 11th September. Come grab essential school supplies, clothes accessories and more from popular children’s brands including Antler, Marks and Spencer, Herschel, Kipling, Babyshop, Lacoste, Mosafer and Lifestyle. Additional treats include the onsite customisation of goods with Laser Gallery, lollipop art with Candylicious, a dedicated kid’s arts and crafts area and a limited edition gift with purchase. In addition, discover the traditional string weaving culture of the UAE with the Khayt Art Installation – a live, interactive art exhibit brought to life by the Dubai Institute of Design & Innovation. Blending traditional and digital techniques, 3D projections against large minimalist cubes, workshops and live displays will keep visitors enthralled as it takes centre stage in the Grand Atrium on the ground floor of the mall until 11th September. Bringing the world’s first Warner Bros theme park to life, the exciting Warner Bros activation gives kids and families the chance to explore the worlds of their favourite action heroes and cartoon characters. This exciting zone features kid-friendly elements such as face painting, multimedia games, giveaways and plenty of photo opportunities, bringing an extra dose of cool to all those visiting the mall during the Back to School season and will be on show until 15th September and located near the Dubai Aquarium on the 2nd floor. At the Skechers Maze for Charity, Skechers is helping children to give back to the needy as part of a thrilling life-sized maze challenge. Using augmented reality elements, kids must journey through the maze while completing mini gaming challenges along the way. Those that finish will help a child in need to receive a pair of shoes from Skechers! The maze is located near Paris Gallery on the ground floor, and will run until 11th September. Last but not least, football fans eagerly waiting for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 can get a taste of the action at the AFC Asian Cup Fan Zone. Learn about the history of the AFC Asian Cup and the participating nations through a unique virtual reality experience or put your football skills to the test. Fans will also get the first look of the newly designed AFC Asian Cup trophy on show at The Dubai Mall for the first time. Complimentary match tickets to the big event are also up for grabs! The Fan Zone finishes soon, 1st September, and takes place at the Star Atrium on the lower ground floor.
Dragon Mart 2 is holding a fun-tastic event for Back to School this year – a dedicated Back to School Market! This one-stop shop will offer everything you would want for a year full of learning – from backpacks, lunch boxes, water bottles, shoes and socks to notebooks, pencils, colours, calculators and other accessories. The Dragon Mart Back to School Market will run until 8th September during mall operating hours.
Dubai Festival City Mall is throwing a one of a kind Legoland event to help make going back to school awesome for kids across Dubai.
